Sixteen years ago, Melody and I were preparing to watch Samford University take on Alcorn State and Steve “Air” McNair for homecoming when her water broke. We quickly got our bags together and took off for Brookwood Hospital…eagerly anticipating our new arrival.
When we got settled into our room, Melody started painting her fingernails and toenails and told me to go on to watch part of the game since Samford’s campus was less than a mile from the hospital. My Mom had arrived by that time, so reluctantly I went. At least 25 people asked me how I was doing and where Melody was.
“Oh she’s down the road having a baby.”
I don’t think Karen Eddins has forgiven me for that yet.
When I arrived back at the hospital, Melody was radiant. We talked through what we had learned in our Lamaze classes and nervously waited.
Just after 9:30 that night, Ryland entered our world and I’ve never been the same since.
I spent a few hours going through old pictures and put together the video above to celebrate the amazing woman Ryland is becoming right before our eyes. I’ve also included a few photographs of her paintings below.
Ryland, we are blessed to be your parents and are so proud of the amazingly gifted woman you are becoming.
We Love You!
Thanks Dan! We are so, so blessed. God is good!
